This 4-days family desert trek is a short but authentic journey that will allow you to discover the traditions and culture of the Nomads and introduce you to the simple life of the desert. Suitable for families, accessible to children from 5 years old (with a saddle camel).
Departure City: Marrakech / Ouarzazate
Destination: Draa Valley
Day 01
Departure for the 4-days family desert trek from Marrakech early in the morning towards M'hamid. The transport will be provided by Sahara Marokko in a private vehicle. The journey begins with the discovery of the High Atlas Mountains and Berber villages. You will cross the Tizi n'Tichka pass ("pass of pastures"), a pass at an altitude of 2260m, located on the highest road in Morocco. This pass is the only direct route that will take you to Ouarzazate and the entire Southeast region. A stop at Kasbah Ait Benhaddou will allow you to admire a typical ksar of traditional Moroccan architecture in a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The journey continues through the Draa Valley to reach the gates of the desert.
You will arrive in the evening at the comfortable fixed camp, for a night in the heart of the palm grove.
Day 02
Departure from the fixed camp with the nomadic team. The adventure begins at the pace of the camel caravan, leaving the palm trees behind. It is the sea of the desert that surrounds you. We will pass through some sites of ancient settlements, where you can find pieces of pottery, traces of the ancestral civilizations that inhabited the desert.
After this desert trek, lunch will be taken in the shade of a tree, accompanied by tea.
In the evening, we will visit the mausoleum of the marabout Sidi Naji, an opportunity to discover local history and customs. The camp will be set up between the sand dunes.
Day 03
Today, we will head towards the orange dunes of Erg Zahar. As we progress into the heart of the desert, the tamarisk trees become rarer, and the view becomes more and more spectacular. We will visit the old nomad market. It was once the place of trade between the nomads and the arriving caravans. After lunch in the shade of a tamarisk tree, we will reach the spectacular dunes with unique shapes sculpted by the wind. But it is when you reach the top that you will be struck by the beauty of the view of the surrounding dunes. Our camp will be set up in the heart of the dunes for a night under the stars.
Day 04
After breakfast in the dunes as the sun rises, we will leave the camels behind and it is already time to return to the fixed camp by 4x4. We take the road back to Marrakech with a vehicle from Desert Roots. Lunch in Ouarzazate and arrival in Marrakech in the late evening.
