Itinerary Details
Day 01
Departure in the morning from Marrakech to M’hamid. The transport will be provided by Sahara Marokko in a private vehicle. The journey begins with the discovery of the High Atlas Mountains and Berber villages. You will cross the Tizi n’Tichka pass ("pass of pastures"), a pass at an altitude of 2260m, located on the highest road in Morocco. This pass is the only direct passage that will take you to Ouarzazate and the entire Southeast region. A stop at Kasbah Ait Benhaddou will allow you to admire a typical ksar of traditional Moroccan architecture in a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The journey continues through the Draa Valley to reach the gates of the desert.
You will arrive in the evening at the comfortable fixed camp, for a night in the heart of the palm grove.
Day 02
Departure from the fixed camp with the nomadic team. We will walk at the pace of the camel caravan, leaving the palm trees behind us. It is the sea of the desert that begins. We will pass through some sites of ancient settlements, where you can find pieces of pottery, traces of the ancestral civilizations that inhabited the desert. After this desert trek, lunch will be taken in the shade of a tree, accompanied by tea.
In the evening, we will visit the mausoleum of the marabout Sidi Naji, an opportunity to discover local history and customs.
The camp will be set up between the sand dunes.
Day 03
Today our destination will be well. We will cross the sand dunes to reach the mountains and the stone desert. Lunch near a Tamaris. After a rest, we will leave again to climb the mountains and visit the traces of ancient nomadic settlements. At the top of the mountain, you can admire the magnificent panorama of the great Sahara. In the evening, we will descend to enjoy the camp, set up at the foot of the sand dunes.
Day 04
On our way to the magnificent roaring dunes of Erg Zahar! After walking along the mountain, our caravan will sail like a ship on the sand of the great dunes. We will take a break in the shade of the mausoleum of Marabout Sidi Omar, then we will follow the undulating line of the dunes with our camels. Lunch will be taken in the shade of the tent. In the evening, you can climb the highest dune that dominates the surroundings and offers a splendid view of the entire Draa Valley. This is the Sahara as you dreamed it.
Day 05
We wake up to the rhythm of the sun and leave Erg Zahar to head towards Erg Ait Outnir. A break at the well in the Draa Valley will allow us to fill up with water and give a drink to the camels. This will be an opportunity to perhaps meet some camels accompanied by their shepherd. It will be possible to take a refreshing shower like the Nomads.
In the evening, you can take a walk in Erg Ait Outnir before falling asleep under the stars.
Day 06
Return through the landscapes of the Draa Valley to reach civilization (M’hamid). Then return to Marrakech with a vehicle from Sahara Marokko.
