An accessible journey for an immersion in the desert landscapes of the Draa Valley. An experience of living to the rhythm of the sun in the Moroccan desert. Suitable for families, accessible to children from 5 years old (with saddle camel).
Departure City: M arrakech / Ouarzazate
Destination: Draa Valley Duration: 5 days - 4 nights
Day 01
Departure in the morning from Marrakech towards the gateway to the desert: M'hamid. You will cross the High Atlas Mountains through the Tizi n'Tichka pass, where you will enjoy panoramic views from the highest road in Morocco (2260m). You will stop for a visit to the Kasbah Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will arrive in the desert in the evening for a night in the heart of the dunes, in the comfortable fixed camp.
Day 02
Departure from the fixed camp with the camel team to reach the sanctuary of Sidi Naji. We will pass through some sites of ancient settlements, where you can find pieces of pottery, traces of the ancestral civilizations that inhabited the desert. Lunch will be taken in the shade of a tree, accompanied by tea.
In the evening, we will visit the mausoleum of the
marabout Sidi Naji, to discover local history and customs. The camp will
be set up between the sand dunes.
Day 03
Today, we will head towards the orange dunes of Erg Zahar. As we progress into the heart of the desert, the tamarisk trees become rarer, and the view becomes more and more spectacular. We will visit the old nomad market. It was once the place of trade between the nomads and the arriving caravans. After lunch in the shade of a tamarisk tree, we will reach the spectacular dunes with unique shapes sculpted by the wind. But it is when you reach the top that you will be struck by the beauty of the view of the surrounding dunes. Our camp will be set up in the heart of the dunes for a night under the stars.
Day 04
Like the nomads, wake up with the sun. We head towards Lhdibate through the Draa Valley, to see the forest of dead tamarisks and discover the traces of animals that live there. We make the essential tea break and lunch at Erg Etonir. Then we depart to set up the camp at Erg Bo Rabra where it will be possible to meet camels near the well.
Day 05
Return to M'hamid. We leave Bo Rabara and cross the magnificent desert landscapes one last time to arrive at the fixed camp. You can have lunch at the fixed camp, or on the road to Marrakech with a vehicle from Sahara Marokko.
