Our longest dedicated desert camel trekking route from Mhamid goes further than any of our other treks: six days on foot and camelback, pushing into desert interior most tours never reach before two full nights near Erg Chegaga.

A support vehicle can be arranged on request for anyone who needs to skip a trekking day, but the route is designed as a real multi-day commitment for travellers who want the deepest version of this experience.

Day 1 :

M'Hamid to Oued Naam

M'Hamid to small dunes to Oued Naam

The trek sets off from M'Hamid, alternating walking with time in the saddle across a landscape of small dunes.

Camp is set at Oued Naam, a dry riverbed used by nomadic families for generations.

Day 2 :

Oued Naam to the Open Desert

The second day covers open hammada, scattered with fragments of ancient pottery from long-gone settlements.

Camp is set among a new stretch of dunes, further from any road than the previous night.

The third day pushes further from any track, into a stretch of desert most tours never reach, with camp set among tall, wind-sculpted dunes.

Toward Erg Chegaga

The trek continues toward the fringes of Erg Chegaga, Morocco's largest dune field.

Camp is set among these larger dunes for two consecutive nights.

Day 5 :

Rest Day Among the Dunes

Free day at the Erg Chegaga dune camp

A full day without moving camp — time to climb the highest nearby dunes, rest through the midday heat, and take in the scale of the desert.

Return to M'Hamid
