About this journey

This Marrakech desert trip to the Chegaga dunes is our most complete version of the route — the High Atlas, Draa Valley, Zagora, Tamegroute, and two full nights of desert camping instead of one.

The extra day means time for a proper rest day among the dunes: sandboarding, dune climbs and a slower pace than our 3 and 4-day versions, before the return drive to Marrakech.

Day 1 :

Marrakech to Zagora

Marrakech to Tizi n'Tichka to Ouarzazate to Zagora

The road climbs the High Atlas via the Tizi n'Tichka pass before descending through Ouarzazate and following the Draa Valley to Zagora.

Overnight in Zagora, with time to explore its palm groves and souks.

Day 2 :

Zagora to M'Hamid

Zagora to Tamegroute to M'Hamid

A stop in Tamegroute reveals a centuries-old library and traditional green pottery workshops before the road continues to M'Hamid.

Overnight in M'Hamid, the last town before the true Sahara.

Day 3 :

M'Hamid to Erg Chegaga

A 4x4 track leads into Erg Chegaga, where a camel ride among the dunes precedes a desert camp dinner and the first night camping under canvas or open sky.
